Gloss lam­in­a­tion can be described in a number of ways, includ­ing shiny, lus­trous, crisp, etc. Those products that should appear flashy should be pack­aged in glossy boxes. In addi­tion to making bold col­ours appear more vibrant, gloss lam­in­a­tion makes them look modern and excit­ing.

Gloss lamination: why should you choose it?

All prin­ted sur­faces should appear glossy, and the print­ing ink should be pro­tec­ted. In the end, it will make for an excel­lent touch exper­i­ence. Typ­ical lam­in­ated struc­tures include card­stock boxes, which have a rigid inner core and a smooth, shiny outer layer. By lam­in­at­ing paper products such as cards, bags, and much more, you can pre­vent them from becom­ing creased, faded, water dam­aged, wrinkled, stained, smudged, abraded, or marked by grease. Due to its high tem­per­at­ure res­ist­ance and abil­ity to bear all kinds of heat and hand­ling, lam­in­a­tion is needed for fur­ther fin­ish­ing steps like UV var­nish­ing, spot UV, and hot foil stamp­ing.

What is gloss lamination?

Gloss lamination is a thin, clear film bonded over the printed board. It makes colours look deeper and brighter, adds a reflective shine, and protects the print from scuffs and moisture during handling.

Gloss or matte — which should I choose?

Gloss suits bold colours, photography and products that need to catch the eye on a shelf. Matte gives a softer, low-glare finish that often reads as more understated. Both matte and gloss lamination are included at no additional lamination charge on every order.

Is gloss lamination the same as a gloss coating?

No. Lamination is a film; a coating (such as an aqueous or varnish-type gloss) is applied as a liquid. Lamination generally gives more protection and a higher shine, while a coating keeps the board closer to its natural feel. We can advise which suits your box on your quote.

Can I combine a glossy finish with other effects?

Yes. Gloss works well with foil stamping and embossing. For the opposite effect — a matte box with shiny details — ask for matte lamination with spot UV.

Which products suit glossy boxes?

Cosmetics, toys, electronics, confectionery and any retail product with bright artwork. The shine helps colours stay vivid under shop lighting.
